Finding the perfect design for a masculine birthday card can be challenging, especially when you want it to reflect the recipient’s personality. Today I’m sharing a camera birthday card that I created for my nephew, combining his love of photography, camping, and the outdoors into one special birthday card.
Create a Camera Birthday Card with Moonlit Flora
I started with a Secret Sea card base and added two layers of Moonlit Flora Designer Series Paper. The rich blue and green tones create a beautiful backdrop and set the mood for an outdoor-inspired design.

Build the Camera Focal Point
For the focal point, I stamped the camera from the Capturing Smiles stamp set onto Basic Black cardstock before silver embossing it to add shine and definition. I tucked leaves from the Fern & Flora Dies around the camera using several shades of green and blue to create depth without overwhelming the design.
Inside the camera lens, I added a picture of a tent in the wilderness. I had been looking for another way to use this camera after a previous project, and this scene perfectly captures my nephew’s love of camping and the outdoors.
Tips for Designing a Masculine Birthday Card
I often find masculine cards more difficult to design because I naturally enjoy adding lots of layers and embellishments. I actually cut extra leaves for this project and had them ready to add!
Instead, I chose to keep the design clean and balanced. The simpler layout allows the camera and camping scene to remain the stars of the card while still providing enough texture and interest.
Add Contrast with Golden Glow Cardstock
To brighten the darker colour palette, I stamped the Happy Birthday sentiment onto Golden Glow cardstock. The warm orange tone also appears in the camping scene, creating a pleasing balance across the design.
I love how this small pop of colour stands out against the deep blues, greens, black, and silver while drawing your eye straight to the greeting.
