Retiform Technique for Cardmaking
The retiform technique, derived from the Latin word “retis” meaning net, creates a unique grid-like pattern on your card. Often called the grid technique, it uses masking paper and ink to achieve this striking design.

Using the Retiform Technique
To begin, you’ll need masking paper and ink. This method involves masking sections of white cardstock to form a grid. Then, adding ink to the open spaces. The result is a network of colour blocks ready for stamping. In this tutorial, I’ve used the Grow With Love stamp set and dies from Stampin’ Up!, along with Elements of Text stamps but any supplies will work.
Steps to Create a Retiform Card
Start with a piece of white cardstock.
Use masking paper to block off sections.
Add ink to the exposed areas to form shapes.
Stamp within the masked shapes to complete the design.
Blend the same ink coloiur over the white areas to tone together.
This simple process allows you to create eight sections for stamping, but you can customize the number of blocks.

Variations of the Retiform Technique
The retiform technique offers endless creative possibilities. Experiment with:
Colour Choices: Use one colour for a monochromatic look or multiple colours for vibrant designs.
Layouts: Try landscape or portrait orientations.
Shapes: Vary the size and arrangement of blocks.
Each card will have a unique result, making this technique exciting and versatile.
