A flip flap birthday card is a wonderful way to turn a handmade card into a keepsake full of memories. For my niece’s 21st birthday, I wanted to create something truly meaningful, so I designed a layered flip flap birthday card filled with photos of her growing up.
Each flip flap lifts to reveal another photo, creating a beautiful timeline of memories. It was such a joy to make this special card and look back through all the moments captured in the photos.

Why a Flip Flap Birthday Card is Perfect for Milestone Birthdays
A flip flap birthday card is perfect for milestone celebrations like a 21st birthday because it allows you to include multiple photos, messages, and decorative elements in one project.
Instead of just opening a card once, the recipient can interact with the design by lifting each flap to reveal another memory. This makes the card feel more like a mini scrapbook and creates a keepsake that can be treasured for years.

Creating Photo Frames with the Joyful Squares Bundle
To highlight some of the photos, I used the Joyful Squares Bundle to create layered square frames on one of the pages. The clean geometric shapes work beautifully for framing photos and give the design a scrapbook-inspired look.
Using the dies allowed me to quickly build dimension while keeping the focus on the photos inside the flip flap birthday card.
Choosing Colours with the Sweet Thoughts Memories & More Card Pack
The colour palette for this card was inspired by the Sweet Thoughts Memories & More Card Pack. I loved the bold combination of Pretty Peacock and Flirty Flamingo, which adds a bright celebratory feel to the project.

Decorative Details with the Capturing Smiles Bundle
To reinforce the photo theme, I used elements from the Capturing Smiles Bundle including the film strip die, small hearts, cameras, and sentiments.
These playful details add personality to the card while tying the design together. They also help emphasise the storytelling theme that makes a flip flap birthday card so special.

Mixing Current and Retired Products
This card also includes a few retired favourites from my craft stash. I used retired glimmer paper for a touch of sparkle, along with the Large Number Dies to highlight the special 21st milestone.
A few retired Memories & More cards also found their way into the design, proving that older supplies can still work beautifully in new projects.
