Spring has officially arrived here in New Zealand, and to celebrate, I felt inspired to create something floral. Naturally, I turned to the Thoughtful Journey Designer Series Paper and sought inspiration from the catalogue. As I flipped through the pages, I spotted a beautiful square note card with a spring vibe that immediately caught my attention.
However, I didn’t have the Thoughtful Wishes Bundle. Instead of stopping there, I embraced the challenge. This is what CASEing (Copy And Share Everything) the catalogue is all about! You take inspiration and make your own creative choices using what you have on hand. Plus, I wanted to make the card a standard size rather than a square.
Thoughtful Cutting of the Designer Series Paper
First, I had to carefully cut the Thoughtful Journey DSP to keep the floral element on the left side of the card, just like the one in the catalogue.
I considered how to cut the Thoughtful Journey DSP so that I could maintain the scene and pattern balance. I wanted the right-hand side of the scene for my card. So, I turned the paper upside down on my trimmer and cut at 10 cm. If you’re curious, you can see this technique around 3:40 minutes into my video tutorial.
How To CASE the Catalogue for a Beautiful Focal Area
One of my favorite card designs is gathering branches beneath a sentiment, and it worked perfectly here. I added Petunia Pop Bordered Ribbon, which really makes the card pop! I used the Textured Floral Stamp Set and Dies, which are perfect for creating bouquets. Additionally, the “Birthday Blooms for You” sentiment from the same set worked perfectly for my spring-themed card.
Adding Sparkle with Glitter Paper
Next, I wanted to add a little sparkle, because what’s a celebration without a bit of glitter? I reached for the Three Colour Glimmer Paper pack, which includes Highland Heather, Petal Pink, and Pretty Peacock. The glitter paper added just the right amount of shimmer, taking the card from simple to stunning.
Heat Embossing with Clear Embossing Powder
After that, I focused on the sentiment. To give it a shiny, polished look, I used clear embossing powder. I stamped the sentiment in Blackberry Bliss ink, quickly covered it with clear embossing powder, and used my heat tool to set it. The beauty of clear embossing powder is that it works with any ink color, leaving a glossy finish that matches the original ink.
Using Offcuts for the Inside of the Card
Lastly, I turned my attention to the inside of the card. Rather than discarding the offcuts from my DSP, I decided to use them. I took half of the leftover piece and adhered it to the right-hand side of the card’s inner panel. This not only adds a decorative touch but also ties the inside of the card to the design on the outside.
Final Thoughts on How to CASE the Catalogue with What You Have
CASEing the catalogue is a great way to get inspired and still make something uniquely your own. Even if you don’t have the exact products used, you can still create something beautiful by making a few adjustments. With the right techniques and tools, you can turn any inspiration into a card that reflects your personal style.
