I recently came across a beautiful Nordic-style Christmas card on Instagram. Designed by Vicki Boucher, she used the Reindeer Fun bundle to create a cozy holiday feel. Inspired by her design, I decided to make my own version of a Nordic inspired Christmas card using the Winterly Tree Tops bundle. I wanted to create a few more samples for an upcoming event, and this bundle felt perfect.
Completed Nordic-Inspired Christmas Card
A Nordic Christmas card with a brown and white colour scheme always captures simplicity, warmth, and natural beauty. To achieve this look, I used a wood-grain paper from the Country Woods DSP. Tearing the paper slowly with my fingers, I created a soft, organic edge that revealed the white underside of the paper. I loved the rustic, Nordic feel this gave to the card.
Colouring the Birds with Stampin’ Blends
Sticking to the Nordic theme, I coloured the birds in soft, natural tones. I used the Ivory Stampin’ Blend for their chests, tummies, and wings. Then, I shaded the birds with Light Pecan Pie in areas like under the wings and on their heads. I blended the colours together with Ivory for a smooth transition. For added depth, I used Dark Pecan Pie to highlight the black lines on the stamp. Finally, I lightened the birds’ tummies with the Colour Lifter to soften the look.
Embossed Sentiment
I added a simple yet elegant sentiment from the Greetings of the Season Stamp Set. Stamping the sentiment with VersaMark ink onto Basic Black cardstock, I embossed it with white powder and a heat tool. While it wasn’t traditionally Nordic, the black contrast against the brown and white card felt more striking than a white sentiment.
Adding Metallic Enamel Effects
I die-cut the birds using the coordinating die before adding Metallic Enamel Effects Basics Copper for a subtle metallic accent. This quick-drying enamel lacquer is perfect for customizing the size and shape of embellishments. Make sure to allow the enamel to dry completely before adhering the birds to the card with dimensionals.
Using a Mask on the Inside of the Card
For a unique touch inside the card, I used the centre from the sprigged frame die cut as a mask. Placing it in the centre of the card, I lightly sponged Pecan Pie ink with a Blending Brush. This technique added a soft background that complements the front design without overpowering your message.
Tips for Creating a Nordic-Inspired Christmas Card
The combination of brown and white in this Winterly Tree Tops Nordic Christmas card creates a harmonious and cozy feel. Here are three tips to help you achieve that classic Nordic style:
- Use Natural Textures: Incorporate kraft paper, wood accents, or linen to enhance the natural, earthy brown tones. These materials add depth and warmth.
- Keep It Minimal: Stay true to the clean and uncluttered look of Scandinavian design. Simple shapes, geometric patterns, or minimalist elements like reindeer will evoke the Nordic aesthetic.
- Balance Light and Dark: Let white dominate the space, while using brown for key elements. This balance creates the crisp, airy look typical of Nordic design, while keeping the card warm and inviting.
Final Thoughts on Crafting a Winterly Tree Tops Nordic Christmas Card
Creating a Winterly Tree Tops Nordic Christmas card is a wonderful way to bring the warmth and simplicity of Scandinavian design to your holiday projects. The blend of brown and white tones captures the cozy, natural beauty of winter, making it perfect for anyone who loves minimalist, nature-inspired cards.
