Here’s another great design to add to your sketch book. This simple designer series paper sketch card uses strips of Designer Series Paper to create a card with plenty of visual interest. The design was inspired by Laura Beacham.

A Simple Designer Series Paper Card
Four vertical strips of DSP create a simple layout, while the contrasting cardstock underneath gives the design extra definition. I love how easy this layout is to recreate with different Designer Series Papers and colour combinations.
For this card, I used the Glow of Harvest 12” x 12” Designer Series Paper, which is the August Product of the Month. This paper is single-sided and has a lovely pearlised sheen, with seasonal leaves and flowers throughout the collection.
I particularly liked the pumpkin design, so I chose it for my card. In my video, I also share another design from the pack, along with some other Designer Series Papers and different colour combinations. It’s a great way to see how changing the paper can give the same layout a completely different look.
At the time of writing, the Glow of Harvest Designer Series Paper is still available for $11 with a $150 order.

Choosing Your Cardstock Colour
The cardstock behind the strips can be any coordinating colour that you find in the Designer Series Paper you’re using. This gives you lots of options and makes this a great design for using up scraps of cardstock.
I tried a few different colours from my scrap box before deciding on Early Espresso. The dark colour creates a lovely contrast with the soft colours in the DSP and helps each strip stand out.
Finishing the Card
For the sentiment, I used the smallest of the Everyday Arches Dies. The “thank you” sentiment comes from the Greenery Lane stamp set, which is currently on the Last Chance List.
One of my lovely followers created her own version of this card after my live on Wednesday. She added a piece of ribbon underneath the sentiment, which was such a lovely touch. She changed the sentiment to make it a birthday card for a friend, showing just how easy it is to adapt this simple design for different occasions.
I love how this simple layout lets the Designer Series Paper do most of the work. Once you have the basic sketch, you can easily change the paper, cardstock, ribbon and sentiment to create cards for almost any occasion.
