Fern & Flora Double Vision Card

This week I’m sharing another fun design, the Fern & Flora Double Vision Card. I’m also excited to showcase a brand-new bundle from the May–August Catalogue, which launched this week. You’ll find the Fern & Flora Bundle on pages 34–35 as part of the beautiful Moonlit Flora Suite.

As a New Zealander, it’s wonderful to see our iconic ferns featured in the stamps, dies, and designer series paper. The designs feel fresh, natural, and full of texture. Even better, the colours in this suite really pop off the page.

Fern & Flora Bundle Inspiration

Although I love the designer series paper, I decided to save it for my May classes. Instead, I embossed a piece of Peaceful Pine Two-Tone Cardstock with the Fern & Flora Embossing Folder. This created a rich background while still highlighting the lovely fern details from the suite.

I also repeated the double vision technique, but this time I made each strip slightly wider than my previous version. As a result, the finished design feels bold while still keeping plenty of texture and movement.

Add Texture With the Double Vision Technique

This Fern & Flora Double Vision Card is packed with texture. The embossed design features layers of leaves, ferns, and fronds that work beautifully together.

After embossing, I lightly sanded the cardstock with a sanding block. This exposed the white core of the Peaceful Pine cardstock and added extra contrast. It’s such a simple technique, yet it creates so much visual interest.

The double vision technique also adds dimension because the embossed strips alternate in height across the card front. Therefore, the design catches the light beautifully from different angles.

Finishing the Fern & Flora Double Vision Card

This style of card works well for many occasions. Because the background already has plenty of detail, I kept the embellishments simple. I added a fern frond, a moth, and a sentiment to complete the design without overwhelming it.
