How to Make a Father’s Day Card with Stampin’ Up! Take To The Sky Suite

When I first set out to create a baby card, I began by cutting circles from the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper using the Stylish Shapes Dies. But as I searched for a suitable sentiment, I realized I didn’t have one specifically for a baby. So, I pivoted my project and decided to create a Father’s Day card instead. In New Zealand, Father’s Day falls on the first Sunday in September, and luckily, the Take to the Sky Suite had everything I needed.

Have you ever started a project, only to have it evolve into something entirely different?

Adding Dimension With An Embossed Layer

To enhance the background, I used the Metal Plate embossing folder, adding texture and interest. For a sturdier card base, I embossed a separate layer, just slightly smaller than the card front.

I cut circles from the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper in various patterns and sizes using the Stylish Shapes Dies. These circles, along with the plane, were adhered using dimensionals for added depth. A crucial tip: when gluing the plane wings to the body, make sure to check where the wings won’t touch the body, and avoid applying glue in those areas.

A Versatile Suite for All Occasions

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed using the Take to the Sky Suite in my classes this month, creating fun, easy cards that are perfect for the guys. Don’t forget, the Take to the Sky Designer Series Paper is included in the Designer Series Paper Sale, which runs until August 31st.

White Embossed Sentiment for a Touch of Elegance

One of my favorite techniques is heat embossing, especially for sentiments. The subtle shine and raised texture it provides are truly stunning. For this card, I white-embossed the “Happiest Father’s Day” sentiment on Night of Navy cardstock.

Adding a Personal Touch Inside the Card

For the inside, I inked the cloud stamp with Smoky Slate and stamped it on scrap paper first, a technique known as ‘stamping off.’ This created a lighter shade of the ink. Over the top, I stamped the words in Boho Blue. The “You’re The Best Plane & Simple” sentiment is versatile, making it suitable for various occasions, including Father’s Day, birthdays, and thank you cards.

Finally, be sure to check out the Tri Easel Card. It would look fabulous when made with the Take to the Sky Suite!
