Resizing the Gallery Blooms Frame

This week I’m leaning into the in-colour blues and resizing the Gallery Blooms frame into a square. I’ve been itching to showcase the large floral image from the Beautiful Gallery Designer Series Paper—seriously, it’s stunning. Initially, I planned to use the full 6″x6″ piece as is. However, I wanted a fresh spin. That’s when I spotted the square frames on page 56 of the catalogue, and a new idea bloomed—literally. I also took inspiration from a card by Kristine McNickle.

Resizing Gallery Blooms Frame

To create my square frame, I began by die cutting the frame as it comes. Then, I carefully trimmed along the mitred corners and repositioned the pieces further up to form a new square shape. This simple trick completely transformed the shape. Afterward, I layered it onto a piece of Secret Sea cardstock, which gave it just the right amount of contrast and definition behind the floral scene.

Design Details

As I continued designing, I came across the motif print in Cloud Cover. Not only is it soft and elegant, but it also coordinated beautifully with the floral image. Because of that, I opened the Faux Linen Ribbon in the same shade and added delicate die-cut flowers using the Secret Sea Two-Tone cardstock. In particular, I loved how the lighter tone stood out without overpowering the design.

Additionally, I tried something a little different—I stamped my sentiment directly onto the DSP. Although I don’t often do this, it really worked here. As long as the background is light and the pattern is subtle, the words remain clear and legible.

Ultimately, this design became a sympathy card. While I hope I never have to send it, we all know it’s one of those cards we need to have ready. So next time you’re looking at a die, ask yourself: Can I do more with this? You just might surprise yourself with how versatile your tools can be.
